Local Organization Empowers Cuyahoga County Youth Through Mentorship
In a concerted effort to bolster the potential of young people in Cuyahoga County, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland continues its vital work of creating and supporting impactful one-to-one mentoring relationships.
The organization, known for pairing adult volunteers (“Bigs”) with children and teens (“Littles”), aims to ignite the power and promise inherent in youth through consistent guidance and friendship.
For young individuals aged 8 to 17 across the county, the presence of a positive role model can serve as a significant catalyst for growth and development.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland facilitates these connections, enabling Bigs to become mentors who offer encouragement and friendship during formative years, typically spanning grades 3 through 12.
Real Outcomes, Brighter Futures
The impact of these mentoring relationships extends beyond casual findings. According to the organization, youth involved in their programs demonstrate tangible positive outcomes. Studies indicate that Littles are 20% more likely to enroll in college and are positioned to earn 15% more over their lifetime, contributing to a narrowing of the economic gap by two-thirds.
These statistics underscore the profound influence that consistent mentorship can have on the trajectory of a young person’s life.

Building Bonds Through Shared Experiences
The cornerstone of the Big Brothers Big Sisters model lies in the simple, everyday interactions between Bigs and Littles. These relationships are often built through free or low-cost activities readily available within the community, such as visits to local libraries, explorations of the Metroparks, engaging in board games, enjoying ice cream, or attending community festivals. The organization also hosts activities for matches to participate in.
It's Easier Than You Think: Become a Supported Mentor

The time commitment for volunteers involves meeting with their Little approximately twice a month, totaling 4 to 6 hours, for at least a 12-month period. These outings are scheduled at times that are mutually convenient for the Big and the Little, fostering a mentoring friendship that can be integrated into existing schedules.
